Winter Sound School: Ableton 101

  • HOTSHOTS Footscray (map)

Ever wanted to make electronic music but don’t know where to start? Have you spent hours cracking the Ableton download but don’t know what to do next? Sick of watching YouTube videos of boring people who take 10 minutes to tell you anything at all?

This workshop will take you from looking puzzled at the Ableton screen to having the skills to start becoming the electronic producer that you have always dreamed of being.

Taking you through all the basics of Ableton Live 9, you will learn:

- How to navigate the set-up of Ableton
- How to use both audio and midi tracks
- How to create software drum and synth tracks
- How to use basic Ableton plug-ins like reverb and delay
- The basics of digital sampling in Ableton

What you will need:

- Please download and install the Ableton Live 9 Free Trial on your computer
- Bring Laptop + Headphone
- Pen + Paper (optional)

If you don’t have some/any of these things, please feel free to come along and team up with someone who does or just watch and take notes 🙃

Some prior knowledge of music is helpful, but the material will be taught slowly and simply, with questions encouraged.

This workshop will be taught using a MacBook

Ableton Live 9 (full) crack - http://mac-torrent-download.net/application/music/ableton-live-suite-9-7-3/?fref=gc(remember to turn off your internet, after you have downloaded, before connecting to Ableton and then turn options in the ‘Licences and Maintenance’ sections to “off”)

This workshop will be taught by Geryon 🙄 Geryon is an electronic music producer with a background in guitar and interactive composition. They have previously scored works for screen, dance and performance and perform electronic music using both hardware and Ableton live set ups.

** Please note that this workshop will cover some of the same things that were taught in Neil’s Cabatingan’s (YUMGOD) ‘Beatmaking in Ableton’ workshop (but probably taught in a different way)

This workshop will be held on stolen land of the Wurundjeri and Bunurong people of the Kulin Nation.

Hotshots is partially wheelchair accessible. We are working on making the workshop space accessible but due to negotiations with the venue cannot yet confirm that it will take place on the ground floor. We take this seriously and are working with Hotshots on this issue. If the workshop cannot be held in the accessible part of Hotshots, Geryon is happy to provide a one-on-one tutorial in Ableton at the home of any folks who cannot attend due to accessibility.

Please note! This week's workshop will be held on Wednesday (not the regular Tuesday) so it doesn't clash with Undercurrent's workshop series (happening on Tuesday 22 August).
