Winter Sound School: Circuit Bending

  • HOTSHOTS Footscray (map)

Winter Sound School gets bent with this special one off circuit bending tutorial run by video artist, musican and cynical melbounre trans babe Laura Davis, aka InfraGhosts.

She'll be demonstraiting her own collection of circuit bent audio and video devices, talking about the possibilities and limitations of this black art and teaching you everything you know to start bending your own equipment!

You'll learn plenty if you want to just come listen but we're aiming to get our hands dirty and put at least one bend in any single piece of equiment you bring through the door. Old casios, speak and spells, kids music toys and cheap noise makers are a great place to start. Basicaly anything that already makes noise, ideally has it's own speaker, has screws so you can get inside it, ideally uses batteries, is old enough that the circuit isn't integrated into a single microchip, costs less than $10 in an opshop and has no sentimental or monetary value so it won't be too heart breaking if we kill it cause this is potentially dangerous stuff!

Any soldering or electronics experience is going to help you get it done faster but is totally unnessesary and we're here to help :)

So bring your gear and an open ear and let the bending begin!

InfraGhosts is the audiovisual project of Melbourne trans new media artist Laura Davis. Her work combines new-wave inspired synthpop, dance-heavy drum machines and stirring vocals with live glitch aesthetic video art. 80's synth hardware met with a modern alternative dance dynamic.

This event takes place on the land of the Wurundjeri people. We pay our respects to their elders, past, present and future.
