Sound School: SLIM SET

  • Collingwood Arts Precinct 35 Johnston Street Collingwood, VIC, 3066 Australia (map)

Sound School presents Slim set, the duo redefining Australian rap. Dev and Atro combine the sounds of UK grime and their home of western Sydney, in the process destroying everything we think we know about Aussie hip hop. With two razor sharp EPs under their belt, Slim Set’s sound is unmistakable: piercing syncopated percussion, heavy sub bass, hyperactive flow, and a sense of humour that keeps you hitting the replay button.

This event, the first in Sound School’s 2018 artist showcase series, will explore Slim Set’s production and songwriting process and give an insight into what shapes their practice. Producer Atro will give us a practical look inside his production techniques, software choices, and lead participants through how to build a grime beat.

Participants are encouraged to bring their own laptop to take part in the beat-making tutorial. Download and install the demo version of Ableton Live 10 before you come - watch this page for the sample pack we’ll have available for download for use in the tutorial.

All Sound School events are free of charge. Collingwood Arts Precinct is a wheelchair accessible venue - please contact us if you have any questions about accessibility. This event will take place on the unceded lands of the Wurundjeri peoples of the Kulin nations. We pay our respects to elders past, present, and emerging, and acknowledge that genocide is ongoing and sovereignty was never ceded.

Sound School is a community project upskilling and celebrating queer, women, people of colour, and people with disabilities making electronic music. We are funded by the Australia Council for the Arts.
