Our monthly workshop series at Signal Youth Arts saw amazing young people come together to learn about synthesizers, DJing, circuit bending, synth building, and DIY MIDI controllers. Stay tuned for our upcoming 2018 showcase at Signal.
This workshop assumes everybody wants to play with synthesizers but doesn’t have enough opportunities to do it. Bridget Chappell and Jonnine Nokes guide you through her family zoo of synthsizers and invites you to try every single one, and find the strangest noises possible.
10/2/18: DJ Raving Private Ryan: DJing
Sound School kicks off its monthly Signal series with its DJ 101 workshop. DJ Raving Private Ryan (Vapor Noir, Adidoss) takes you through Virtual DJ, Serato, CDJs, and how to set up your own parties
28/4/18: Infraghosts: Circuit bending
Circuit-bending: the liberating art of physically re-routing electrical instruments' signals, taking their sounds to strange new places. Basically we are going to take a bunch of keyboards and noise toys apart and make them sound weirder than ever! Audio-visual artist Laura Davis (Infraghosts) puts on a lush spread of toys to deconstruct and re-route.
19/5/18: Infraghosts: Make Your Own Synthesizer
Learn how to build a basic, single-oscillator synthesizer on a breadboard - no soldering required. The Atari Punk Console is a fun way to start generating your own weird electronic noises in just an hour or so.
23/6/18: Allison Walker: DIY Midi Controllers
How do you turn bananas into a keyboard? Or make music with plants? This workshop teaches you how to make ordinary – and extraordinary – objects into MIDI controllers, that talk to your computer and make music.
